Assembly types

All m.i. cable assemblies are constructed for use in hazardous locations, Class I, groups B, C and D, Division I and Class II, groups E, F and G.

MICC offers cable assemblies in four basic types:

1. POWER
The pre-poured seal cable assemblies are 600 volt rated units used to eliminate in-line conduit seals for motors connected to outdoor starter racks, etc. Maximum AWG size being a 3 conductor #6, with a minimum route length of 8". Pigtail lengths of solid or stranded copper as required. Outer sheath may be HDPE jacketed. Longer lengths of multi conductor power cable used for canned pump applications, approved by NEC, Article 501-5(f), UL listed and tagged. Used for fire pumps, emergency generators and other electrical equipment required to meet a two hour fire related code. Construction is also available from Alloy 825 cable outer jacket and solid nickel conductors as used  for emergency block valves, ebv’s and mov’s requiring more severe fire protection.   Please call for specifications.

2. CONTROL
Usually multi-conductor and smaller AWG. for motors, start/stop push button stations, motor operated valves, lighting and small power applications.

3. INSTRUMENTATION
Two, three or four conductor cables, 3 foot to 6 foot long, for arcing devices and instruments in hazardous locations requiring a gas or liquid block seal. Flexible with drip loop to withstand vibration. Shorter cable assemblies are used in gas analyzer panels, petroleum gas pumping units, air conditioning units and for many other OEM applications where space does not allow bulkier conduit and wiring. HDPE jacketed shielded twisted pair cable for digital and milliamp signals for corrosive atmospheres. Also available in Alloy 825 for hydrogen and sulfuric areas.

4. THERMOCOUPLE
Type J, K and T in customized lengths (6mm diam.) as thermocouple extension cables, connect from thermocouple to conduit system. Solid pigtails only, color code according to ANSI/MC96.1-1982.

Quality assurance

During manufacture all cable assemblies are periodically tested for insulation resistance and prior to shipping are tested again for insulation resistance, continuity, color coding and conformity to customer specification.

Test reports furnished upon request.

What's new?

As of March 27, 2000 the cable reference numbers have changed to a new format and some of the diameters and gland thread connections have changed. The chart above is correct as of 6/23/00.  Please double check the sizes you currently use.
